Major Initiatives

The objective behind Sand County Foundation's efforts is to learn from, encourage, and where appropriate, assist citizen-based conservation projects that incorporate multiple landowners, a commitment to ethics and incentives, monitoring, independent review, and a willingness to share the social, economic, and environmental outcomes with others.

Agricultural Incentives - The award-winning Agricultural Incentives program provides incentives, through a market-based approach, to assist farmers in lowering their nutrient discharge from their working lands, while improving profitability.

Bradley Fund for the Environment - The Bradley Fund for the Environment is a partnership between Sand County Foundation and the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation. The fund fosters ethically sound and science-based projects that are leading-edge solutions to major ecological issues.

Leopold Conservation Award - The Leopold Conservation Award recognizes private landowners who are actively committed to living Aldo Leopold's legacy through extraordinary achievement in voluntary conservation.

Leopold Memorial Reserve - The Leopold Memorial Reserve represents a cooperative partnership between Sand County Foundation and private landowners who are committed to Reserve-wide management and ecological research.

Water As A CropTM - A new initiative that works with landowners to enhance water quality, supply, and reliability on their land.

 

The recently published Generations on the Land celebrates the conservation leadership of eight recipients of the Leopold Conservation Award.
